New Releases - January 2012

Having looked ahead at the upcoming metal album releases, I noticed there were a spattering of bands which also had a female member.  Some albums stand out as must haves for my CD collection; others have been an interesting adventure of discovery.

Here is the first instalment of femetal album releases for 2012 with a look back at January.

Skylark - Twilights of Sand
Vocalist - Ashley

Skylark is an Italian power metal band formed back in 1994.  Twilights of Sand is their 10th album release.  I have not come across them before but found this 'interesting' promo video on their website:

Lacuna Coil - Dark Adrenaline
Vocalist - Cristina Scabbia

Lacuna Coil are an Italian gothic metal band who also formed in 1994.  I first saw Lacuna Coil live in January 2010; officially my first ever metal gig.  I have gone on to see them a further two times and am always blown away by their stage performance.  Dark Adrenaline has been much anticipated following apparently disappointing reviews of their 2009 Shallow Life album.  Although they promised a much darker and heavier album this time, I don't find it is particularly heavier than their previous release, nor do I see anything wrong in that. \m/

Cadaveria - Horror Metal
Vocalist - Cadaveria

Cadaveria is an Italian extreme metal band formed in 2001 by ex Opera IX members Cadaveria and Flegias.  They released their 4th studio album Horror Metal in the same month as Opera IX released their latest release Strix Maledictae in Aeternum.

Bleeding Through - The Great Fire
Keyboardist - Marta Peterson

Bleeding Through are a metalcore band from California, formed in 1999.  The Great Fire is their seventh studio album release.

So there you have it.  A very brief overview of the femetal albums released in January 2012.  This year is shaping up to be an epic year for new metal releases and the ladies are certainly making their mark!  Bring on February.
