Extreme Thursday: Presents ...

If there's one thing I've learned about Thursdays, it's that they're all the same. Well, today we're bucking that trend and trying something a bit different. Sometimes we come across extreme metal bands that haven't been around long, or don't have an extensive oeuvre. Extreme Thursday has featured a number of long standing bands, but how best to showcase these tasty underground morsels of fresh meat?

And so we have Extreme Thursday Presents. A short showcase of a number of bands whose musical output makes up in quality what it lacks in quanity.

This week we have the pleasure of introducing you to an exciting selection of young melodic death metallers and filling the next 15 minutes of your life with awesome extremity. Read on.

A Melodic Death/Doom Metal band based in Texas, USA and formed in 2009.  The band finished recording their EP Alpha in 2012 and in April 2014 they released a new single War of the Wretched. Alpha features 4 intense tracks with lyrical themes about nature and the elements.

In May 2013 the band released an official video for the opening track of the EP, Phasing Currents:

Their more recent single War of the Wretched does seem to have a different feel about it and it looks as though this is the first track from an upcoming full-length album.  Watch this space on that!

The band is made up of 4 musicians: Cinthya Rocha on main guitars, Waldo Rocha on rhythm guitars, synths & programming, John Johnston on vocals & lyrics and Edgar Pinto on drums.

Creation Undone

A Melodic Death metal band incorporating technical and extreme death metal elements formed in 2011 and based between Faro and Loulé in Portugal.  To date the band have only released one EP called Misanthropic Reflections back in April 2012.

The EP features 7 tracks two of which are instrumental:

  • The Cry of Mother Earth (instrumental)
  • Carrion Birds
  • The Culling
  • Spiral Into Insanity
  • Gardens of Grief
  • Mirrors
  • Falling Into the Winter's Embrace (instrumental)

Misanthropic Reflections from Creation Undone on Myspace.

The band features Sylvia Wolf on vocals, Nuno Guerra and Rui Florido on guitars, Marco Amaral on bass and André Cabrita on drums.  Having watched some live videos from the bands YouTube channel they are pretty impressive live.  Sylvia's growls are an effortless, guttural roar that defy expectations.

Check out this recording session video of her vocals too:

A Melodic Metal band formed in 2009 and originally from Columbia. A five-piece female fronted group of musicians with strong neo-classical influences, combined with a touch of death, heavy and progressive metal.

Inheritor released their debut album in 2010 called From Dust N Passion and did a small tour where they shared the stage with big acts from the local Colombian metal scene like Gaias Pendulum, Soulburner and Loathsome Faith.  Spiritual Company is taken from that album:

In 2011 they released their first music video for A Feeling Caress, also taken from From Dust N Passion.

In 2012, after some line-up changes they started working on their second album and made the move to LA.  The current line-up is made up of Aliyah Davis on vocals, Alejandro Cardenas  on guitar/vocals, Jared Behrens on guitar, Tyler Rollins on bass and Lamar on drums.

The new album is due for release sometime this year and they recently released this glimpse of the new material:

So, you've heard the music, you know a little about the people behind said music, so now all that is left to do is go support and buy some of their stuff and maybe, just maybe, in the not to distant future there will be more new music to enjoy!
