Horror metallers Gwar were left with an uncertain future in March this year when frontman and founder Oderus Urungus (Dave Brockie) passed away of a heroin overdose. On September 12th, six months after Oderus' passing, the future of the band was became a little clearer. New band member Vulvatron (Kim Dylla) was revealed at Riot Fest, and she seems to be sharing vocal duties with Blothar (Mike Bishop).
Vulvatron is Gwar’s first female member since back-up singer and dancer Danielle Stampe (Slymenstra Hymen) left in 2000 and, unlike previous female involvement in the band, Vulvatron is not a side-show. In fact, Vulvatron appears to be all but in charge!
Kim Kelly of Wondering Sound says:
"Vulvatron is not dancing, or breathing fire, or keeping the slaves in line (though one assumes she’ll be adept at all three). She’s nobody’s girlfriend, or groupie or background dancer; Vulvatron is in charge ... Representation matters, and now, all of a sudden, there’s a big, brash, bold new female personality on stage with a legendary band. Moreover, she’s just as gross and goofy as her male bandmates, whether she’s slaying dinosaurs or disemboweling Nazi skinheads onstage or drenching her minions with ... [artificial] boob-blood."Follow the band on:
