Surviving Bloodstock Festival with Fibromyalgia

We've been going to Bloodstock for a good few years now, an annual pilgrimage  that we look forward to every year. In 2014 though, I struggled. Having been diagnosed with Fibromyalgia at the end of 2013, I wasn't sure exactly what impact it would have on my BOA experience or what I would need to do to compensate for my reduced energy and ongoing pain, while also trying to enjoy the festival. After experiencing the festival without making any provisions or allowances, I knew that in 2015 some things needed to change if I was to continue attending.

This week we had an opportunity to talk to John and Margie from Deadlock. Deadlock are a German melodic death metal band who have always been about extremes, mixing up death metal, technical prowess, borderline pop-laden melodies, nods to classic metal, and casual flirtation with trance and beats in their musical offerings. Following some line up changes, the band are about to release the awesome new album Hybris [8th July].

Dutch alternative rock band Nemesea released their fourth album, Uprise, on April 29 via Napalm Records which we featured on the site last month.  Recently Manda, Sonny and HJ took some time to talk to Femetalism about the new album and the bands plans for the future.

Thanks for taking the time to talk to Femetalism. For those readers who might not know the band, can you introduce yourselves and tell us a little about the band and how you came to be?

Hi and thanks for the questions :) Well, Nemesea is a rock band coming from the Netherlands. We started the band back in 2002. During our first years we toured with After Forever and recorded a symphonic metal-oriented album called 'Mana'. After that we decide to head into another direction and chose release an album through an online-crowd funding company called Sellaband. The result was a more rock-oriented album with lots of electronic influences called 'In Control'. A few years later we performed a couple of unique live shows in omni-surround/ 9.1 and released this on cd and 5.1 dvd. A few years ago we signed with NapalmRecords and released our 3rd studio album called 'The Quiet Resistance'. Since April 2016 there is the newest release called 'Uprise'.

Hamburg based heavy stoner, sludge / power doom band High Fighter, whose first full length album comes out this Friday June 10th on Svart Records, have just unleashed a full album stream for their debut Scars & Crosses.

Formed in the summer of 2014 by former band members of A Million Miles, Buffalo Hump and Pyogenesis, this band is a volatile cocktail of heavy as hell riffs fuelled by beer and the mighty weedian riffs. Add a heavy dose of the blues and these deadly schizophrenic vocals, and these guys and girl offer something special to the Sludge, Blues and Stoner Scene. Leaves' Eyes - Edge of Steel Video

While there has been lots of controversy surrounding Leaves' Eyes of late, we here at Femetalism feel somewhat flabbergasted and disgusted by the unnecessary insults and name calling that their new vocalist Elina Siirala has endured. We have followed Elina for some time now with her band enkElination (Angel Nation) and having seen her perform live numerous times can vouch for her awesome credentials. As for Leaves' Eyes, while I cannot deny they have had a long and successful career and that there music was good, I didn't have much of their music and I managed to miss them perform numerous times. I watched the new video expecting to be neither blown away nor offended, and I have to say that the video for Edge of Steel is fabulous and I am genuinely looking forward to hearing more from them and seeing how they move forward together as a band.

Celebrating International Women's Day 2016 - March 8th

International Women's Day is celebrated each year on March 8th throughout the world. In different regions the focus of the celebrations ranges from general celebration of respect, appreciation and love towards women to a celebration for women's economic, political, and social achievements. This year the UN theme for International Women's Day is "Planet 50-50 by 2030: Step It Up for Gender Equality".

So what action can we take? We can Pledge For Parity! Everyone - men and women - can pledge to take a concrete step to help achieve gender parity more quickly - whether to help women and girls achieve their ambitions, call for gender-balanced leadership, respect and value difference, develop more inclusive and flexible cultures or root out workplace bias. Each of us can be a leader within our own spheres of influence and commit to take pragmatic action to accelerate gender parity. Make your PLEDGE now!

As is now tradition, Femetalism celebrates this day with a selection of photographs taken throughout the previous 12 months at the live music events we have attended.  Although we have been taking a break from Femetalism, we have still been out and about, attending gigs as much as we can. Craig has included a total of 59 photos of the women in music we have seen since last March.
